Inside Conker | October — Power, Discipline & Results

From Mike:
Every month I send a note to the Conker team about where we’re at and where we’re heading. These are real updates — part reflection, part reminder — and we’re sharing them here so you can see what goes into building Conker from the inside out.

Good morning team, and happy Saturday.

As we wrap up September, I want to acknowledge the great job everyone has done. The weather has been on our side and it’s given us real momentum. There have been a few project decisions that could have been thought through more carefully, but those have been addressed and are all part of learning and sharpening as a team.

🧭 Leadership Reminder

Chaos creates chaos.

When things start to feel overwhelming and decisions need to be made quickly, stop. Breathe. Think through what’s important and what’s just noise, then lead.

Rushed decisions almost always create more work and wasted energy. I’d rather you take five extra minutes with your team to build a clear plan than have to go back and fix things later.

You’re not alone in this, call someone, talk it out, think aloud.

If your gut says, we can do better here, listen to it. That’s integrity. We’re here because we’re people who care deeply about what we build, and about doing it the right way.

Smooth seas do not make a good sailor.

💬 Client Connection

Clients choose Conker because we present ourselves as high quality, professional, and industry-leading.

The only time we run into friction is when client expectations don’t align with reality. The easiest way to bridge that gap is through a two-minute conversation:

  • What made you choose Conker?
  • Is there anything really important to you that we need to know?
  • How can we make this the best possible experience for you?

These questions are simple, free, and powerful. They build trust and turn clients into raving fans.

🌿 A Personal Reflection

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about time, how fast it’s moving and how fragile life really is.

A close friend’s recent health battle has been a tough reminder that none of this is promised. It’s pushed me to be more intentional: to make sure the projects we take on align with who we are, to look after my health, and to make the most of every day.

For the younger members of our team, don’t waste your youth. Get clear on what you want your life to look like and start building it now. You’ve got a team around you cheering you on.

For the older ones, it’s never too late. Some of the most successful people didn’t hit their stride until later in life. Share your experience. The next generation needs it.

🎯 October Theme: Power, Discipline & Results

Results over excuses — This isn’t a “try our best” month. Do what needs to be done, in every area.

Professional standards — Uniforms on, sites clean, systems followed, communication sharp.

Strength in structure — Follow Conker’s processes. Structure reduces chaos and delivers stronger results.

Shared ownership — See your role in the bigger brand picture. We grow as a unit, not as individuals.

✈️ Shout Out

Our resurfacing boys are heading to the U.S. for a two-week basketball competition, you’ll be flying the Conker logo proud, and you’ve got the whole team behind you. Just know that when you return, the Christmas rush will be waiting. Be ready.

💬 Closing Thoughts

As I sit here writing this, I just want to say how proud I am of everyone and what we’re building together.

I’m tired, as I’m sure many of us are, but I know we’re laying the foundation for something special.

Here’s to October: Power, Discipline & Results.
