Transform Your Outdoor Space with a Concrete Pool Surround
A pool surround should feel like an extension of your lifestyle. It is where warm days turn into long evenings, where you entertain friends, cool off with the kids and enjoy the best parts of coming home. At Conker, we build concrete pool surrounds that bring all of that together. Beautiful, durable and designed to perform in Brisbane’s storms and the Gold Coast’s coastal conditions.
Pool surrounds are one of the most sensitive areas of any property. When built incorrectly, issues show up fast. The most common mistake we fix is when builders or contractors dowel or tie the pool surround slab directly to the pool shell. Unless the job has been specifically engineered for it, this almost always leads to cracking, movement and expensive repairs.
Our approach is different. We design every pool surround with careful separation, correct expansion allowances and the right falls so the slab can move independently without compromising the pool structure. You get both architectural appeal and long-term stability.
We combine our concreting experience with landscape and drainage knowledge to ensure your pool area works as well as it looks. That means thinking about water flow, surface temperature, slip resistance, service points, outdoor showers and any future structures like gazebos, pool houses or spas.
If you want a pool surround that lifts the entire outdoor space, keeps your home protected and stays beautiful for years, this is where Conker does its best work.

Planning Concrete Pool Surrounds That Last Decades, Not Summers
Every great pool surround starts with planning. Before formwork touches the ground, we look at how your outdoor space functions and how the area will be used.
How many people will use the pool. Where water flows during heavy rain. How the sun moves across the yard. Whether you are using salt, chlorine, magnesium or naked pool systems. If outdoor showers, lighting conduits or spa footings need to be integrated. Whether the surround needs to support furniture, shade structures or future renovations.
We design pool surrounds around lifestyle and practicality, not trends. Some designs look impressive on paper but fail once the climate, movement and moisture come into play. Others are functional but lack warmth or architectural presence. Our role is to find the balance so your pool area feels beautiful and works long term.
On many projects, we collaborate with landscape architects, tilers and exterior designers to ensure the pool surround becomes part of a bigger picture. Clean transitions, correct levels, planting integration and planned finishing details make the entire zone feel cohesive and intentional.
You also benefit from a team who understand Brisbane’s heavy rainfall and the Gold Coast’s salt, humidity and UV exposure. We build surrounds that handle these conditions rather than fight against them.
If you want a concrete pool surround that stays safe, stable and sharp for years, planning is the part we never skip.

Concrete Pool Surround Finishes for Every Style and Climate
The right finish makes all the difference. It affects temperature underfoot, grip, appearance, maintenance and how well the space ages under sun, water and constant use. We offer finishes that perform across Brisbane’s heat and the Gold Coast’s coastal exposure.
Exposed Aggregate Pool Surrounds
Naturally textured and slip resistant with a P5 wet barefoot rating. Through our Holcim Geostone partnership, we offer designer stone blends including white cement mixes that stay cooler underfoot and complement modern architectural pools.
Honed Concrete Pool Surrounds
Smooth, elegant and refined while still compliant. Honed concrete suits premium homes, modern renovations and spaces where you want a resort-style finish without compromising on safety.
Coloured Concrete Pool Surrounds
Vibrant or neutral tones that stay consistent. We use premium oxides and sealers that resist UV fade, chlorine exposure and salt air, making them ideal for homes across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
Plain and Brushed Concrete Pool Surrounds
Simple, strong and effective. Ideal for functional zones, future tiling or designs where the pool surround forms part of a larger landscaping plan.
Every pool surround we build meets AS 4586 slip resistance standards with P4 or P5 ratings for wet areas. You get a surface that is safe, long lasting and tailored to your home’s style.
Holistic Poolside Design | Built to Protect, Perform and Impress
A pool surround is only as good as the planning behind it. We design and build with a holistic approach, making sure everything works together.
Concrete, drainage, levels, coping, landscaping and structures all influence the performance of the pool zone. We plan proper falls away from the home to avoid water pooling or moisture sitting against walls. We incorporate slimline drains, skimmer systems and expansion joints where needed. We protect termite barriers and vapour membranes so your home remains compliant and safe.
We also take movement into account. Pool shells and surrounding soils behave differently, especially in Brisbane’s clay belts or on the Gold Coast’s sandy and reactive soils. That is why we separate the pool surround from the pool shell unless an engineer specifies otherwise. Independent movement creates stability and reduces cracking, making your investment last.
Our experience with concrete pool surrounds extends across private homes, acreage properties, boutique developments and new pool builds. We bring calm, structured communication and tidy work practices to every job.
If you want a pool surround that looks clean, feels safe and stands strong in South East Queensland’s climate, we would love to help.

ROWES BAY
Resurfaced Double Driveway, Garage & Pathways
Our clients recently completed a major home renovation in the upscale neighborhood of Rowes Bay in Brisbane. After the renovation, they contacted us to enhance the plain grey concrete surfaces on their property. We performed a full concrete resurfacing of the double driveway, internal garage, and pathways using Dulux Avista French Grey with charcoal and white flecks. The project was completed with two coats of Dulux Avista Extended Wear clear sealer.
As with this project, some clients choose to continue resurfacing into their internal garage instead of traditional epoxy flake flooring, which is prone to hot tire pick up in Queensland. Resurfacing the garage floor provides a continuous, seamless look without the need for additional building finishes
FAQs
Is concrete around a pool a good idea?
Yes. Concrete pool surrounds are strong, low-maintenance and can be finished in a way that is both beautiful and safe. When designed properly, they manage drainage, protect the pool shell and tie your whole outdoor area together. They are also typically more cost-effective than many tiled finishes.
What is the best concrete finish around a pool?
There is no single “best” finish. Exposed aggregate, honed concrete and textured resurfacing can all work well when designed for slip resistance, comfort underfoot and the look you want. We will suggest options that suit your pool type, climate and lifestyle.
How much do concrete pool surrounds cost?
Pool surrounds involve more detailing, drainage and coordination than standard slabs. As a rough guide, most Conker pool surround projects sit in the five-figure range, with many similar in value to our driveway work once size and finishes are considered.
Will chlorine, salt or magnesium damage concrete pool surrounds?
Poorly detailed concrete can suffer from chemicals and salt over time. We design and seal pool surrounds with this in mind, using systems that are suited to salt, chlorine and magnesium pools and keeping joints and falls working as they should.
Are concrete pool surrounds slippery?
They don’t have to be. We design all pool surrounds to meet the AS 4586 slip resistance standards, targeting P4 or P5 wet barefoot ratings so the area feels safe and comfortable even when the kids are running around.
Should pool surrounds be tied to the pool shell or kept separate?
In most cases, surrounds are better designed as independent structures, allowing the pool shell and surrounding ground to move at different rates without cracking or damage. We only offer details that we know will stand up over time.
